About the Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito Cooperative Winery, founded in 1960 and starting operations in 1963. It is the result of the dream and hard work of most of the wine producers of Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito, based on tradition and reinvention, supported by a quality known and remembered. Among the winery's grapes are some of the region's best varieties, preserved over generations, with particular emphasis on Antão Vaz, also known as "Vidigueiras grape variety", producer of a unique white wine that is probably the origin of the well-known white wine of the Alentejo . The history of the winery goes well beyond its 50 years of existence and has ancient roots intertwined with the history of the village itself, whose etymology, some say, is derived from "Videira" (vine), as it is located in the fertile There were plenty of vineyards in the soil. In 1519, Vidigueira was given to Vasco da Gama by D. Jaime, Duke of Bragança, with a treaty ratified by a charter from King Manuel I, which marked the beginning of a deep relationship between the village and the Gamas.
