It is a fruit spread with a bright dark red color and a very pleasant, aromatic, slightly sour taste of red plums. The fruit spread is made from fresh fruit from our own fruit farm.
The Doce de ameixa won the gold medal at a national Portuguese fruit spread competition in 2022.
The recipes were devised by monastery women at a time when gelling agents, preservatives, artificial flavors and colors were unthinkable. To this day they contain no colorings or preservatives and no flavor enhancers. Only ripe fruits and sugar/honey are used.
Over the last two decades, Beirabaga has won many medals and awards in various national competitions for products made from traditional Portuguese fruit.
