As a spice, coriander seeds go well with fish and meat dishes, are contained in gingerbread, bread and other baked goods, and are used in jams, sausages, pies, ham, mustard, sauces and marinades. The seeds and leaves are also part of curry mixtures.
Coriander originally comes from the Near East, but quickly spread throughout the Mediterranean region. Coriander seeds were found in the tombs of the pharaohs, and the Greeks and Romans flavored wine with coriander. The Romans brought coriander to Central Europe.
